Hockey Edmonton Special Event Sanction Form
As of August or the start of the new season, any pre-season/conditioning camp does require a Hockey Alberta Special Event Sanction. Additional insurance is not required, as Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada extend insurance cost as we are in the new season and the assumption is made that players will be registered to teams once evaluations are finished.
In addition, non-sanctioned players from the previous season have their status reset as of August, so no additional fees are required, however, camps that take place after the season (April-June) are still part of the old season and therefore any non-sanctioned players would be required to pay the additional fees as part of that season.
Tryouts do not need sanctions either, only camps and ice sessions not part of normal evaluations.
Hockey Alberta requires any association hosting an ID camp or Spring/Summer camps to be sanctioned. Complete the form, it will be sent to Discipline, who in turn will submit a request to Hockey Alberta for a sanction #.

Hockey Alberta Sanctioning Guidelines
Hockey Canada's insurance is designed to cover the normal hockey activities associated with games and practices, travel directly to and from. Social activities are not covered. Activities such as going bowling, tobogganing, to a movie, to another sporting event, participating in another sporting activity, for example, are not covered while attending a tournament or at home attending to league activities or practices. Parents, siblings, friends, guests, etc. are not covered under Hockey Canada's insurance at any time.
If the event is not an approved event as per the guidelines, the liability while participating in an unsanctioned event will fall to personal liability insurance plans. Everyone should be aware of their personal liability while participating in a team event. Please exercise safe and responsible practices, common sense etc. in all activities you plan.
